RV highway-tripper shares journey recommendations for Black households

Kay Apkan received a negative feeling from the RV park her household pulled into in Galveston, Texas.

Having traveled across the region entire time since 2020, the Apkans were used to being the only Black individuals in some destinations, but this time felt diverse.

“It felt extremely overwhelming,” she explained, recalling the “funny stares” they bought as Accomplice flags flew from RVs and golf carts nearby. 

She worried about her son Aiden, who likes to go discovering on his bicycle.

“In a location like that … what if he rides someplace and anyone seemed at him and thinks that he reported one thing or did a thing, then made a decision to consider issues into their possess palms?” Apkan said, fearing “an Emmett Till situation.”
