Journey: PhotowalksTV Most effective of 2022

We went to plenty of fabulous spots in 2022 for PhotowalksTV, my streaming travel pictures series that is seen on YouTube, Tubi and the Roku Channel. Photo moments, of class, stand out, but equally unique are some of the cool people I achieved on the highway.

The joy of touring and earning videos is assembly fascinating folks, and in my yearly conclude of the calendar year spotlight reel, I’d like to shine a spotlight on a several of them. Two of them are even appropriate right here in the South Bay, the two in Hermosa Seaside.

We satisfied Nicholas Gauthier in Paris for PhotowalksTV

Nico Gauthier is the region supervisor for the social journal application Flipboard. When we met him in Paris, he showcased the vintage dry French wit, telling me of a legendary smartphone app that would freeze if it observed a person trying to get a image of the Eiffel Tower, “because it is been performed a billion instances.”

In Bandon, Oregon, an out of the way, but oh so magical put in southern Oregon, the photographer Susan Dimmock explained to me I required extra than just a digicam by my side to capture the rock formations. “Don’t fail to remember the boots.” You will need to get wet if you take pictures in Bandon.

In Pismo Beach front, men and women stand on line for hours to get very first crack at the Aged West Cinnamon Rolls shop on Dolliver Avenue. I wished one thing a very little more–I required to see how these beauties were being built. Owner Cindy Parkhurst instructed me if I returned the following morning at 6 a.m. I’d be ready to movie it. She also requested me “Have you found our sunsets in this article?” and built a sigh. Of course, they’re really special. Often even much more so than the South Bay.

Out on the San Francisco Bay, Mike McCue had invited me to be part of him on a “Photosail” to get a shot of the Golden Gate Bridge from a different angle–his boat! He was correct, it was incredible. I tried out traveling my drone from out there, but it could not fly as rapid as the boat could sail. In reality, it got dropped at sea. Mike turned the boat all over and caught it in mid-air, handing it again to the operator.

Von Cannon and his periwinkle shells by Sam Graham for the Simple Reader

Then were being two more unforgettable assignments for the Effortless Reader.

Publisher Kevin Cody asked me to check out out the seashell collection of Hermosa Beach’s Von Cannon, who right after we met, I dubbed the Seashell Millionaire. He has thousands and thousands of them, in a little very little dwelling. With any luck , 1 day he turns it into a museum!

He has conventional shells, periwinkles, sand pounds and moonstones, sea glass and tiles, even useless starfish that he’s painted over. And which is not at all. He’s also a finder of shed seashore things. He collects what’s left guiding and usually takes it residence for display screen. That contains odd flip-flops, cigarette lighters, damaged sun shades, flip telephones, GoPro cameras, iPhones and other factors dumped in the sand.

“I just love the ocean,” he claims. “It’s therapy for me.”

And for the 3rd yr in a row, I did a video clip episode with Surfing Santa. This calendar year was additional specific, as we watched area chiropractor Derek Levy transform himself into the Surfman and then strike the water, which was a lot of entertaining.
